| Observations on the gonads of 50 mm mussels, made during 1983 and 1984, showed that the onsert of gametogenesis occured during September and that the gonads reached maturity in December. Spawning took place from early February to April at temperatures from 10 to 12°C. The flesh had a high water content at the beginning of the spawning period. The pelagic live of the larvae lasts about 30 days with settlement occurring in June when some 90 and 100 spats settle on 1 cpm of rope per day. The intensity of recruitment was 56.10(4) and 722.10(4) larvaes on rope corresponding to a square meter during 1983, and between 28.10(4) and 81.10(4) during 1984. |
